Design first, then install
Every scheme starts with a walk-through: how you use each room, where the furniture actually sits, what the house's features deserve. Then a simple plan — positions, circuits, switching — before anyone cuts a hole. It's the difference between downlights placed on a grid and downlights placed for the room.
Inside your home
Downlights done properly means fire-rated fittings, the right beam angles, insulation-safe housings and a colour temperature chosen once and matched everywhere — not a ceiling of mismatched whites. Dimming that works means LED-compatible dimmers matched to the lamps, so nothing buzzes or flickers at low level. Scenes — one press for "cooking", another for "dinner" — come as simple or as smart as you want them.
Outside your home
Garden and exterior lighting is its own craft: low-level path lights, uplights that flatter stone, everything on outdoor-rated circuits with proper RCD protection — glow, not glare, and nothing shining into a neighbour's bedroom. Driveways, doorways and paths get PIR or dusk-to-dawn lighting, so you're never fumbling for keys in the dark.

Lighting questions, answered
Do you design as well as install?
Yes — that's the point of the service. The design walk-through and plan are included when we do the installation; you're not paying a separate consultant to draw circles on a floorplan. For renovations we'll work from your architect's drawings and mark the lighting layer onto them.
How do you price lighting work?
Per room or per scheme, as one fixed figure after the walk-through — covering design, fittings (or working with ones you've chosen), installation and any making good. Whole-house and garden schemes are priced on the plan.
Can you retrofit LEDs into what I have?
Usually, yes — and it's often the best-value job on this page: matched LED lamps throughout, compatible dimmers so nothing flickers, and tired halogen downlights swapped for fire-rated LED fittings. Lower bills, cooler ceilings, and one consistent white instead of five.
Do you do outdoor and garden lighting?
Yes — path and step lights, uplighting on stonework, pergola and patio schemes, all on outdoor-rated cable and RCD-protected circuits with proper glands and IP-rated fittings. Designed at dusk in our heads, installed to survive a Scottish winter.
What about smart lighting systems?
We fit smart where it earns its keep — scene switching, schedules, presence simulation on holiday — and wire it so ordinary switches still work if the app ever doesn't. You shouldn't need a phone to turn your hall light on, and with our installs you don't.
